With Halloween coming up, the kids in your neighborhood might be getting excited. They’ll work hard that night by going door-to-door to snag some candy. However, while sweets are tasty, they aren’t the best for smiles in general. Indulging too much can leave cavities, but you can do your part in preventing them by offering some alternatives instead. Here are four ideas that you can consider.
1.) School Supplies
While it may sound surprising, school supplies can be a hit with some kids! Instead of imagining the year-round choices, you can give out colorful pencils, themed erasers, and fun notebooks. Ensuring they are in season with things like black cats, pumpkins, or ghosts can make them feel more like a novelty while being useful even after Halloween is through.
2.) Small Toys
Children also love small toys that can last longer than regular candy. While the latter is only a short-lived entertainment, giving things like mini bubbles, temporary tattoos, springs, or pop fidgets can get more use for much longer. Better yet, there is plenty of variety out there, so trick-or-treaters can find something that they will be most happy with.
3.) Other Types of Snacks
If you still want to give an edible food, then there are still non-candy options. Pretzels, string cheese, raisin boxes, or apple slices are tasty things that kids can munch on that aren’t filled with sugar. Just be sure that you get prepackaged, store-bought ones! Parents often aren’t comfortable letting their loved ones eat homemade goods from strangers.
4.) Accessories
Another great choice is accessories! Many themed bracelets, rings, and stickers can give some pizazz to a child’s costume. One of the best things is glow-in-the-dark items. Not only do they look cool at night, but they can also be used for safety. With a glowing object wrapped around a kid’s wrist or neck, they will be more visible to people as the night continues to get darker.
Candy is often what people think about when it comes to Halloween, but they aren’t the only option to hand out. By giving some of the things above, you’ll still be able to partake in the holiday and enjoy a frightful night, while doing your part in preventing cavities. Even put your own little spin on some of these items, and then you may become a memorable stop for growing smiles that night.
